Italian-born Vienna-based organist, harpsichordist and conductor Davide Mariano (b. 1988) is praised by the critique for his ability to “wow the audience” (Bachtrack) with his “powerful and emotionally charged executions […] demonstrating the thought put into each note” (The Observer).
Mariano has appeared as a soloist at the organ in the most prestigious concert halls and cathedrals in Europe, America, and Japan, including Musikverein in Vienna, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Mariinksy Theatre in St. Petersburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Berlin Cathedral, Vienna St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Ateneul Român in Bucharest, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Kyoto Concert Hall, The Symphony Hall in Osaka, and The Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as at American Universities in Kansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, or for festivals from Rome to Helsinki and from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles.
2016/18 Mariano has been organist in residence at the Sapporo Concert Hall “Kitara” (Japan) and at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans (USA). He has gained prizes in some of the most important international organ competitions (St Albans, Amsterdam, Kaliningrad, etc.).
Both as a solo organist and harpsichordist as well as an orchestra player, he collaborated with many renowned orchestras like the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchester Wiener Akademie, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Musica Angelica Los Angeles, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, etc., working with conductors such as D. Gatti, M. Pommer, C. M. Prieto, R. Paternostro, T. Otaka, M. Haselböck, and R. Goebel. In 2019 he made is debut as a conductor with the Orchester Wiener Akademie at the “Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”. He also conducted from the harpsichord Baroque opera performances in Austria, with great success among audiences and critics. In 2024 he founded his own ensemble „Vienna Baroque Soloists“, with which he concentrates on the repertoire of the 18th century.
Davide Mariano gave organ masterclasses in Japan, in the USA, in Italy, and in Romania. Since 2019 he has been teaching at Italian Music Conservatories and 2023 he has appointed tenured professor for Organ at the State Music Conservatory “Jacopo Tomadini” in Udine.
Since he was nineteen he has completed eight music degrees at the Music Universities of his hometown Campobasso (organ under Francesco Di Lernia), Vienna-MDW (organ and harpsichord under Martin Haselböck and Gordon Murray), Paris-CNSMDP (organ under Michel Bouvard, Olivier Latry, and Louis Robilliard), Stuttgart-HMDK (organ improvisation under Jürgen Essl), Salzburg-Mozarteum (historical performance practice under Reinhard Goebel), and Linz-Bruckneruni (conducting under Georg Leopold).
In 2025 Davide Mariano has been nominated “Ambassador of the Molise Region in the world“ by the Molise Regional Council in Italy for his international career. Three CDs, live recordings for the radio stations MDR, ORF-Ö1, Radio Stephansdom as well for the televisions ORF, 3 SAT, ARTE, and TVR Cultural are a further documentation of his musical activities.
